K4 Edge Release 6.5.0

Configuration Backup / Upload

Running configuration of the Edge Server can be saved or applied/restored from the Edge/Web portal from the General Settings in the Configuration Wizard. Configuration is grouped as below

  • Interfaces - All the LAN/WAN interface configuration and WAN profiles

  • Networks - All Access Network configuration, including DHCP reservation

  • Traffic Policies - All traffic policies, include Device policies

  • Firewall Rules

  • All Configuration - Note: the Site Name / Device name is not saved in this configuration as they get synced up from cloud

After selecting the Configuration which needs to be backed up, click on the “Start Backup” button. Once the backup is ready to download table will show the available Configuration backups to download. By clicking the download button, the saved configuration can be transferred/saved to the local device.

To restore/upload the configuration, click on the “Config Upload” and click the “Upload Configuration Backup” which should open up the File Explorer window. Navigate to the saved configuration file and select the file. Once the file is selected, the file name should show up next to the upload button. Click on “Apply Configuration”. When the configuration is applied, some of the services might get impacted and there will be notification to reboot the system. NOTE: It is highly recommended to reboot the system after applying the configuration, otherwise the system might be working in unsupported state.

Speedtest on Bonded Link on Edge Portal

This feature allows the administrator to run Speed test over ‘bonded’ links or any WAN links based on the WAN profile configured for the Access Network. Note: The speedtest traffic follows the Traffic policies assigned for that Access network as well. If there are multiple Access Network using the same WAN profile, then if the administrator wants to run the speedtest over the specific Access Network, the same can be selected from the drop down.

Use the DNS server provided by FBB Interface

FBB interface is normally used as the emergency or last resort to get internet access. In those scenarios (where FBB is the only available link), the DNS server provided by the FBB modem is used to send the DNS requests. This is specifically requested on few deployments, where the captive portal is present in FBB gateway and they expect al the traffic including DNS to be send to the gateway which acts as DNS forwarder as well.

Pluggable 5G module on Edge Server

With 6.5.0 release, Peplink 5G adapter can be plugged into the UWAN1/USB port on the Edge Server to get the 5G interface support. After plugging in the module, enable the configuration on the “Interface” by selecting the WAN type as “Cell” and enabled the “External 5G Modem”. Once this configuration is enabled, the SIMs/Modem can be managed and monitored thru the “Cellular Controller” screen.

Note: with the current release the 5G adapter has to be connected to UWAN1 interface only.

User configurable SIM Priority

This feature allows the administrator / user to configure the priority of the SIMs to be used. This feature is useful in case of EdgeOne, OneDome devices where there are 8 SIMs per device. Click on the pencil icon next SIMs listed under the Status section. On clicking the pencil, there is a pop up in which the SIMs can be entered as comma separated SIM Slot numbers in a prioritized order. For more advance settings like retrying the high priority SIM periodically or to set threshold for good call quality etc, click on the “Advanced Settings”. Note: Use caution while configuring the Advanced Settings as it might lead to constant call bounce or not connecting in poor areas etc.

Maritime Dual Starlink terminal support

With release 6.5.0 Build 79, EdgeServer can support Maritime dual starlink terminals. On the VSAT controller page, can see the status of both the terminals by switching between the tabs. Along with the management interface, the system can handle the same interface gateway IPs on the terminals as well. There is no specific configuration is needed to enable this apart from selecting the WAN interface type as VSAT/Starlink.

Changes on the Configuration Wizard on Interfaces Screen

There are couple of enhancements added on this screen.

  • By default, only the WAN/LAN/Management interfaces which are enabled/configured will show up in this table. If the user wants to show all the available interfaces, then need to enable the same at the top of the Table “All Interfaces”

  • There is reset button introduced for each of the interfaces. Clicking this button triggers the link bounce for physical interfaces and starts the DHCP, if applicable.

  • Along with this, there is a backend feature to identify the WAN gateway IP change and restart the DHCP service accordingly. This will be applicable for deployments the WAN interfaces are connected to switches instead of connecting directly to the WAN sources.

Bug Fixes/Enhancements

  • Bonding changes to handle idle condition and aggressive reweighing

  • Traffic policy to allow VSAT upload limit up to 50Mbps

  • Probe message failure / packet loss in loopback interface correction

  • USB interfaces Up/Down detection and recovery

  • VSAT Controller - visible only for K4 supported/configured VSAT interfaces

  • Starlink package update to address the obsoleted parameters

  • Flickering Map issue in the Internet Dash Page,

  • Map view Internet Dash page is decoupled with the K4 VSAT service plan

  • VLAN and device top usage sync issue to Kloud

  • Handling for 3rd Party SIM, when the IMSI changes dynamically

  • Correction for Filter by IP Address on Device traffic policy section in Config Wizard

  • Added error messages in UI for failed IAM Login on session expiry and no internet scenario
